The Beverly Carter Foundation was created as a result of the senseless kidnapping and murder of real estate broker Beverly Carter. Beverly was targeted because she was perceived to be a “rich broker who worked alone.” The Beverly Carter Foundation (BCF) is a completely independent not-for-profit foundation dedicated to the ideal that every agent goes home safe every day by providing scientifically based research, information, consulting, training, and support at little to no charge to every MLS, association, brokerage, and agent. In honor of Realtor Safety Month we’ve partnered with the Beverly Carter Foundation to share their top safety tips for agents!

invisaWear creates safety devices that are disguised as everyday accessories. They look like necklaces, bracelets, keychains, fitness bands, and even scrunchies. They each have a button hidden on the back-side. If you double press the button, it instantly texts five pre-selected emergency contacts to let them know you need help, it shares your location, and it can also optionally contact 9-1-1.

Thursday, September 25, 2014 was an exceptionally beautiful, fall-like day. For Beverly, it started as a great day. Not only was it a busy day in the office, but Beverly had even won $50 in an office competition.

Around 5:15 that evening, her day began to wind down. Beverly called Carl, her husband of almost 35 years, to let him know that she had one last 6:00 appointment. She told him she was going to end her day by showing a house to a couple and then pick up dinner on her way home.

What Beverly didn’t know was that her clients – a man and a woman who had identified themselves as a relocating, married couple – weren’t looking to buy a home. They had a sinister plot in mind to use Beverly to get quick cash.

Just the thought of grocery shopping during this pandemic can give senior citizens and those with comprised immune systems anxiety. Amid this outbreak we have seen good though. For example, pre-med student Jayde Powell, launched the free grocery delivery program, Shopping Angels.

Now more than ever we need to make our health a priority. Many of us are working from home for the foreseeable future and, although we may feel the need to watch the news all day, we need to prioritize our health and ensure we’re doing everything we can to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. We asked our co-founders Rajia and Ray to share what they’ve been doing to prioritize their own health during this difficult time. 

Our mission will always be to provide our customers with peace of mind and safety. We are all grappling with this new reality and adjusting to the much needed practices of social distancing and self quarantine. Now more than ever, we need to come together with our customers and community and find creative ways to connect while continuing to provide that peace of mind that has been at the forefront of our mission. With that being said, today we’re sharing some thoughtful tips and things to do while adjusting to this new normal.

To our surprise some of the judges in the male dominated panel (*eye-roll*) unfortunately made comments that were so ignorant and inappropriate that we felt the need to share it to help raise awareness that this type of behavior should no longer be tolerated.
