Racism is a Virus. #StopAsianHate

Kim Morales -
Racism is a Virus. #StopAsianHate

Our founder has experienced racism first-hand countless times throughout her life. As a young, middle-eastern girl growing up in America, Rajia has lived through random acts of horrible, unprovoked racial discrimination. Being told, “go back to your country,” and called a “terrorist” from random strangers are just some of the heinous examples to name a few. These actions are fueled by hatred and bigotry toward minority communities, and it is one of the reasons we unequivocally stand with and support the AAPI community during this time.

Hate crimes against Asians has surged by 149% despite hate crimes overall decreased by 7% within the last year. Nearly 3,800 incidents were reported between March 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021 and women reported hate crimes more than 2x the rate of men. Many of these discriminatory events took place at Asian owned businesses and public streets and parks.

In light of these recent events we wanted to share some ways that bystanders can help and intervene when witnessing these acts of hate:

  • Stopping racist remarks when you hear or see them.
  • Take a (free) bystander intervention course. (The anti-harassment group Hollaback! has teamed up with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to offer free, 1-hour online training to help you safely defuse xenophobia in action.
  • Support your local Asian American businesses and restaurants.
  • Donate to victims’ families and organizations working to support Asian Communities.

Our mission is to allow people to protect themselves and the people they love.

At invisaWear, we aim to positively empower users in feeling safe, secure, and connected. We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe and hope that our products will give users some much needed peace of mind.

We’re happy to share that we’ll be offering a special discount to Asian communities throughout the month of May. If you or your organization is interested please email letschat@invisawear.com for more information.
